Tulum's municipal government formalized tourism promotion agreements with three cities and a national industry association during its participation in Tianguis Turístico de México 2026, held in Acapulco, Guerrero, as part of an effort to expand the destination's visibility in domestic and international markets.
Tourism Director Haydee Hernández Pastrana announced that the municipality signed "cartas de amistad" with Monterrey, Nuevo León; Tuxpan, Veracruz; and Valladolid, Yucatán, as well as with the Asociación Mexicana de Agencias de Viajes. These agreements typically involve joint marketing efforts, information exchange between destinations, and collaborative strategies to attract visitors.
Municipal President Diego Castañón Trejo said the partnerships aim to maintain Tulum's positioning as a leading destination in the Riviera Maya. He stated that participation in events like Tianguis Turístico creates opportunities for visibility and opens new collaboration channels with tour operators, travel agencies, and other municipalities.

Meetings with Tour Operators and Travel Agencies
Hernández Pastrana reported that the Tulum delegation held an intensive work agenda during the trade show, which included meetings with tour operators and travel agencies focused on positioning the destination in new markets and reinforcing its presence nationally and internationally.
The tourism director said these sessions were designed to present Tulum's cultural and natural attractions to industry professionals and establish direct communication channels for future promotional campaigns.
In addition to the agreements with municipalities, the municipal government announced a strategic alliance with Mexicana de Aviación, though specific terms of the partnership were not detailed in the official statement. Hernández Pastrana indicated that the airline collaboration is focused on improving connectivity and generating economic development opportunities for the region.

Strategy to Diversify Tourism Offerings
Officials framed the agreements as part of a broader strategy to consolidate Tulum as a competitive and sustainable destination in constant growth. Hernández Pastrana emphasized that coordinated work with other municipalities, organizations, and companies in the tourism sector will strengthen the destination's offerings and diversify its markets.
During the weekly press conference "Tulum Comunica y Avanza," authorities highlighted the Tulum Air Show 2026 as an example of efforts to position the municipality beyond traditional beach tourism. According to municipal data, the event drew more than 24,000 attendees and reached 2.8 million television viewers and over 420,000 digital viewers.
The municipal government said the air show consolidated Tulum as a venue for large-scale events and demonstrated the municipality's capacity to host international, sports, and entertainment gatherings.
Exchange of Best Practices and Connectivity Goals
Hernández Pastrana said the alliances with Valladolid and other destinations are designed to promote the exchange of best practices, improve connectivity, and generate economic development opportunities for the region. She noted that coordinated efforts between municipalities can create stronger tourism circuits and benefit local economies.
The tourism director said the municipal government will continue promoting initiatives that encourage inter-institutional collaboration and tourism development, with the goal of generating direct benefits for the local economy and improving residents' quality of life.

Security Messaging and Coordination with State and Federal Forces
During the same press conference, Public Security Secretary Edgar Aguilar Rico stated that coordination with state and federal forces has contributed to a 70% reduction in homicides. The municipal government did not provide baseline numbers, a specific timeframe, or independent verification for the claim.
Aguilar Rico said security operations continue across the municipality and tourist zones in coordination with state police, federal agencies, and armed forces. He emphasized that permanent operations are in place to protect both residents and tourists.
Authorities said maintaining security remains a priority for sustaining tourism activity as one of Tulum's main economic engines.
Continued Focus on Promotion and Investment
Castañón Trejo reiterated that the municipal government will continue implementing comprehensive strategies to strengthen tourism, attract investment, and consolidate Tulum as a competitive, secure, and internationally recognized destination.
Officials said the partnerships established at Tianguis Turístico 2026 represent a step forward in expanding Tulum's reach in different markets and platforms, though implementation timelines and specific resource commitments were not announced.
The municipal government said future actions will focus on promotion, connectivity, investment attraction, and security reinforcement to support the continued growth of the tourism sector in Tulum.
