Corrections & Clarifications
We correct errors quickly and visibly. This page outlines the workflow we follow when a reader, source, or staff member notifies us of a potential inaccuracy.
How to Request a Correction
- Email editor@tulumtimes.com with the URL, the passage you believe is inaccurate, and the supporting evidence.
- If the issue is urgent (public safety, legal, or security risk), add “URGENT” to the subject line.
- We acknowledge every request within one business day and assign it to the responsible desk.
Review Process
Corrections are handled by an editor who was not the original author whenever possible. The editor reviews source documents, interviews, and any new evidence submitted by the reader. If the error is confirmed, we update the article and record the change in the “Update” block within the story.
Types of Updates
- Correction: For factual errors (names, dates, figures, quotes). The revised text includes a note describing what was changed and when.
- Clarification: When the original language is accurate but could mislead without additional context, we add explanatory language and mark it as a clarification.
- Update: When new information emerges after publication, we add an “Update” callout with the timestamp and summary of the new facts.
Archival Changes
We do not remove published stories except in extraordinary circumstances involving legal obligations or safety risks. When unpublishing is required, we replace the article with an editor’s note explaining why.
