Mr. Tulum 2026 drew bodybuilders from seven cities and two states

Four Tulum athletes took first place at Mr. Tulum 2026, the municipal bodybuilding and fitness championship, which drew competitors from six other cities across Quintana Roo and Yucatán.

Elihezer Montejo, Enrique Castellanos, Luis Cocom and Azriel Solís won their divisions, according to the account published by the organizing league. The same account credits María García, Fernanda Cohuo, Enrique Pinto, Mario Castellanos and Jacobo Payán with placing in theirs.

Tulum gets one date a year on the state bodybuilding circuit. This was it, and it is the only one of the season staged inside the municipality.

Four first places stayed with the home athletes

The league did not publish a full results table, category names, or an attendance figure, so the record of the night is the list of names it released and nothing beyond it. What that list shows is a host municipality that did not simply lend a stage to visitors.

Nine local athletes appear in it. Four of them at the top of their divisions.

The categories themselves span the two branches the sport separates, bodybuilding and fitness, with the beginner and open levels that municipal events normally carry. In 2024, when the same league ran the competition, its president described a program covering every division and both experience levels, from first-timers to athletes already competing at state level.

What a results list does not carry is the part that takes the longest. Competitors arrive at a municipal open after months of controlled eating, training blocks and weight management, and the judging turns on symmetry, conditioning and stage presentation rather than on anything a clock or a tape measure settles. The league's own summary of the night described the field as showing the result of months of discipline and preparation.

A municipal title that drew entries from Yucatán

The competitors came from Tulum, Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Mérida and Valladolid.

Two of those cities are in another state. Mérida is the Yucatán capital, and Valladolid sits on the far side of a municipal boundary that Tulum shares with it, west of Cobá, on the road that leaves Highway 307 and heads inland. A contest classified as a municipal open on the state calendar pulled a field across a state line, which says more about how thin the competition map is in this corner of the peninsula than about the size of the trophy.

Athletes here travel to compete because there is no other way to compete. The circuit runs roughly one event a month, spread across seven cities, most of which are in Cancún.

Adrián Gómez credits the people who are not on stage

The president of the Liga Municipal de Fisicoconstructivismo y Fitness de Tulum, Adrián Gómez, called the competition a success and thanked athletes, coaches, sponsors, judges, organizing staff, families, media, and the public.

This event, we do not do it alone. We do it together.

He was speaking in Spanish, and the line lands the way it does in any sport that runs on volunteer hours. A municipal championship in a town of this size depends on a room full of people who paid to be there, drove someone there, or worked the door.

Where Mr. Tulum 2026 sits on the state calendar

The Asociación Quintanarroense de Fisicoconstructivismo y Fitness published its 2026 schedule in December, listing 17 competitions and placing Mr. Tulum on August 29 as one of four municipal opens, alongside Chetumal, Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Cozumel. The association is chaired by Sebastián Muñoz Ruiz, and its calendar is endorsed by the national federation and the IFBB.

That structure explains what a local title is worth. Municipal opens feed the state championships, the state championships feed the national selection, and the national selection is where a Quintana Roo athlete gets seen. When the league ran Mr. Tulum in 2024, it described the event as a municipal qualifier toward the state Mr. Quintana Roo Clásico.

The route works. At Mr. Riviera Maya in Playa del Carmen in June, a state championship that gathered 80 athletes, Tulum's Pedro Castellanos and Facundo Ortega won the Men's Physique Juvenil and Men's Physique Games categories and took places on the state team headed to the national championship.

The league wants more competition slots

The organizers said they intend to keep Mr. Tulum running and to widen the number of competition spaces available locally. They did not attach a date, a venue, or a target number of events to that intention, and nothing on the published 2026 calendar adds a second Tulum fixture this year.

The next entry on the association's schedule falls on September 19. Every remaining date through mid-November is set for Mexico City, Chetumal or Cancún, which means the athletes who won at home on August 29 spend the rest of the season on the road.
