Seven of the 21 new winter flights to Cancún and Tulum announced by Quintana Roo on Sunday land at the Tulum airport, and six of them come from Canada.

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa put the figure at 21 new routes and frequencies across the state's two largest airports, operated by Air Canada, Air Transat, Flair, Porter, WestJet, Breeze, Air France, Neos, Viva Aerobus and Volaris. They start on staggered dates between October 2026 and January 2027. Canada accounts for 13 of them, seven into Cancún and six into Tulum, which the governor described as the fastest-growing market in the package.

Most of the total belongs to Cancún. Fourteen of the 21 land there. Tulum gets the other seven.

Those seven arrive in the same weeks the Tulum airport loses United States service. American Airlines ends its Miami route on January 5, 2027, and Volaris stops selling flights to Tulum after January 7, both of which this publication reported this month. The winter board at Tulum is being rebuilt with Canadian seasonal flying while its year-round American service thins to one daily departure.

Six Canadian routes and one from Newark reach Tulum

The Tulum half of the state's list runs to seven entries.

  • Montreal to Tulum, Air Transat, one weekly from October 25
  • Toronto to Tulum, Air Canada, one weekly from October 25
  • Quebec City to Tulum, one weekly from October 25
  • Montreal to Tulum, Air Canada, one weekly from October 29
  • Calgary to Tulum, two weekly from October 29
  • Toronto to Tulum, WestJet, two weekly from October 31
  • Newark to Tulum, two weekly from December 17

Three of the seven carry no airline. Calgary, Quebec City and Newark appear with a frequency and a date and nothing else. Federal tourism ministry figures released in September, set out in our guide to the airport's winter schedule, assigned Calgary to WestJet, Quebec City to Air Transat and Newark to United, with the same start dates the state now publishes.

The dates also match the weekdays those services were reported to fly. October 25 is a Sunday, October 29 is a Thursday, October 31 is a Saturday, and December 17 is a Thursday.

Ten flights a week, at full run. Four of the seven services operate once a week, which determines whether a stay of five or nine nights can be flown on one airline.

Cancún absorbs 35 of the 45 weekly flights

Add every frequency on the list, and the 21 services come to 45 flights a week. Cancún takes 35 of them, by our arithmetic, with 19 of those weekly flights arriving from Canada.

  • Calgary to Cancún, Air Canada, four weekly from December 11
  • Fredericton to Cancún, Air Transat, one weekly from December 16
  • Edmonton to Cancún, Flair, three weekly from December 16
  • Montreal to Cancún, Flair, three weekly from December 16
  • Calgary to Cancún, Flair, four weekly from December 17
  • Halifax to Cancún, Porter, three weekly from December 18
  • Windsor to Cancún, Air Transat, one weekly from December 19

Breeze is the only United States carrier in the package, and all three of its routes go to Cancún. Tampa starts on December 19 with two flights a week, Pittsburgh on January 7, 2027 with three, and Richmond on January 8 with two.

Europe adds two. Air France has been flying Paris to Cancún three times a week since October 13, five days before the announcement that counts it. Neos opens Verona on December 22 with a single weekly flight.

The domestic additions are Viva Aerobus from Acapulco, two-weekly from November 3, and Volaris from Los Cabos, three-weekly from December 1. Neither carrier appears anywhere on the Tulum side of the list, nor do Flair, Porter, Breeze, Air France, or Neos.

Calgary is on the list twice

Calgary to Cancún is counted twice inside the 21, once for Air Canada on December 11 and once for Flair six days later. Montreal to Tulum is counted twice: Air Transat on October 25 and Air Canada on October 29. Toronto to Tulum is counted twice as well, Air Canada on October 25 and WestJet on October 31.

That leaves 18 distinct city pairs behind the figure of 21, consistent with how the state described the package, as routes and frequencies rather than routes alone.

The new winter flights to Cancún and Tulum cluster in mid-December

The calendar is lopsided. Three services open the season on Sunday, October 25, all of them at Tulum. One more follows on the 29th and another on the 31st. Acapulco to Cancún starts on November 3, Los Cabos on December 1.

Then nine of the 21 begin inside nine days, between December 11 and December 19. Verona closes the year on December 22, and Breeze brings the final two in the first week of January.

Lezama ties the new flights to hotels and small businesses

The governor framed the schedule as an economic argument, saying the added connectivity is meant to draw more visitors and strengthen links with strategic tourism markets, with effects reaching lodging, transport, shops and small businesses.

More flights are more visitors and more prosperity for Quintana Roo families.

That was Lezama's own phrasing in the announcement, repeated on her social accounts on Sunday alongside a video presenting the routes.

The announcement does not include a seat count, a passenger projection, or an end date for any of the 21 services. The last absence lands harder on Tulum than on Cancún because each of its seven additions is seasonal rather than year-round.

The last of the 21 to start is Breeze's flight from Richmond to Cancún on January 8, 2027. Tulum reaches that date three days after losing Miami and one day after Volaris stops selling, with six Canadian routes and a Newark flight carrying the season. The tourism ministry windows reported in September ran most of those Canadian services to April 2027. The state's new list repeats their start dates but none of their end dates.
