The World Wellness Weekend runs in more than 190 countries. This September 18 to 20, for the first time, Tulum will be one of them, the town's business council announced at a press conference.

Participation is open, and the clock is short. Hotels, restaurants, spas, gyms, tourism providers, and residents themselves can organize activities during the three days, as long as every session is free and open to the public. The deadline to register on the event's global platform is August 15.

The Consejo Coordinador Empresarial (CCE) de Tulum, which presented the plan, framed the weekend as a way to bring the business sector, the tourism industry, and the community together around a single project and to position the destination internationally around wellness and sustainable development. Patricia de la Torre, the council's founding president, said the municipality's participation represents a chance to recover the essence that has distinguished Tulum around the world.

The World Wellness Weekend turns 10 across 190-plus countries

This year's edition is the 10th, according to De la Torre. Every September, participating venues around the world open free sessions built around meditation, healthy eating, physical activity, and care for the environment, all on the same dates. In Tulum, that calendar lands on Friday, September 18 through Sunday, September 20.

The fit is close to literal. Tulum built its international name on yoga studios, holistic retreats, and a coastline marketed as a place to restore body and mind, an identity tested by years of fast construction and a soft stretch for the tourism economy. De la Torre's call to recover the essence of the destination is aimed at exactly that, and the weekend gives it a stage with dates attached.

For residents and for anyone in town those days, the practical promise is three days of wellness activities that cost nothing, in a destination where that word usually comes with a resort price. The dates also fall in September's low season, one of the quietest stretches of the tourism year across the Riviera Maya.

Registration closes August 15

De la Torre invited hotels, restaurants, spas, gyms, tourism service providers, and the public at large to join with activities of their own. Each one must be registered before August 15 on the movement's official platform at map.world-wellness-weekend.org.

Registration is what turns a local class into part of the global event. Listed activities appear on the map that users browse worldwide during the weekend, and their organizers tap the international promotion the event carries with it.

'A message of love for the planet,' written again

Margarita Álvarez Cantarel, the movement's ambassador in Quintana Roo, asked residents to join the actions already planned for those dates. The centerpiece is a cleanup of beaches and urban spaces organized with Fundación Tus Seres, in which volunteers will come together to form a "message of love for the planet."

The image is a deliberate repeat of a dynamic staged a decade ago, according to the organizers. Cleanups are familiar ground in a town that spends every summer hauling sargassum off its sand. This one reaches past the shoreline and into the streets.

Canirac, Canaco, and the tourism council line up behind it

The presidium traced how wide the local coalition already runs. Vania Macías, coordinator of the World Wellness Weekend for Tulum and Playa del Carmen, shared the table with Alejandro Leo, the movement's ambassador in Yucatán, and Mario Cruz Rodríguez, president of Tulum's Tourism Promotion Council. From the private side came Isela Padilla, commercial director of the hotel Moxy Tulum, Karla Medel, president of the restaurant chamber Canirac Tulum, and Heydy Jazmín Flores, representing the commerce chamber Canaco.

Those titles sketch a footprint larger than one municipality. Macías also coordinates Playa del Carmen, and Leo works neighboring Yucatán, which folds Tulum's debut into a wider push across the peninsula.

Organizers said the full call for participants and the complete program of activities will be published in the coming weeks, with the stated aim of strengthening Tulum's image as a destination committed to wellness, environmental conservation, and sustainable tourism. The closing date is already set. Any business or resident who wants a spot in Tulum's first World Wellness Weekend has until August 15 to claim it.
