A Body in Advanced Decomposition Found in an Overgrown Lot in Tulum's Region 15

Residents walking near an overgrown lot in Tulum's Region 15 detected a powerful foul odor Thursday afternoon and, upon investigating, discovered a body in an advanced state of decomposition. The find prompted an immediate emergency response from municipal police, additional security agencies, and personnel from the Quintana Roo Attorney General's Office.

Passersby noticed the smell coming from the vegetation-covered property and moved closer to identify the source. They found a person dead among the undergrowth and immediately called 911. Municipal police units arrived within minutes and cordoned off the area while forensic technicians and ministerial agents began their preliminary work at the scene.

Victim Remains Unidentified

The victim was found without shoes. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, identification was not possible at the scene. Authorities have not released any description beyond these initial details, and no missing persons report has been officially linked to the case.

Forensic personnel collected evidence and later transferred the body to the State Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Venomous Animal Bite Among Initial Hypotheses

Preliminary reports circulating among local sources suggest one line of investigation involves the possibility that the person entered the area to relieve themselves and was subsequently bitten by a venomous animal. Authorities have not confirmed this hypothesis, and the Attorney General's Office has not made any official statement about the cause of death or whether signs of violence were found on the body.

Region 15 is a largely undeveloped zone in Tulum where vacant, vegetation-covered lots remain common, particularly on the periphery of established residential clusters. The presence of multiple police units drew attention from area residents.

Investigation Ongoing

The Quintana Roo Attorney General's Office has opened a formal investigation. Results from the autopsy and the victim identification process are pending. No additional details have been released as of publication time.
