From The Jungle To The Sea Enjoy Kimpton Aluna Resort Tulum

A luxurious hideaway for the international jet set, Tulum has become a must-visit for sun seekers and the well-heeled. Upon arrival at Kimpton Aluna Resort Tulum, with its freshly raked white sand beach and the gentle lull of ocean waves, guests immediately feel at home.

Surrounded by lush vegetation, moments from the city center as well as Tulum’s National Park; and having forged an exclusive partnership with Ikal, a private beach club just a 15-minute drive from the resort, every terrain and experience is within reach. The color combinations of the jewel-toned ocean; the thatched roof cabanas; the pink-, blue-, yellow- and teal-hued homes; and the colossal and crumbling Mayan ruins in the backdrop are spectacular.

The resort itself is arranged over three floors with 78 well-appointed rooms, designed with large private bathrooms featuring rainfall showers and freestanding basins. Rooms are also kitted out with yoga mats and speakers, ideal for an afternoon stretch. And throughout the design is minimalist with polished wood floors, fresh white walls, and modern furnishings. Elsewhere, if you want to turn the luxury up a notch, choose a suite fitted with its own private jacuzzi on the rooftop or balcony. The star of the show is always the view.

By the same token, light pours through floor-to-ceiling windows at Parallel 20 degree the hotel’s second restaurant, which serves light organic fare and takes its name from the property’s location (the circle of latitude that lies 20 degrees north of the equator and touches Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula—home to Tulum). Served under swinging rattan chandeliers and with spectacular views, it provides the perfect laidback ambience for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Elsewhere, pamper yourself with a visit to the spa, which offers massages, body treatments, and facials. There is also a well-equipped 24-hour fitness center, solidifying all things wellness at the boutique property.

The sun and the sand is why you come to Tulum—alongside soul-searching and moments of calm. On site there are glossy bikes to borrow and constant shuttles zipping guests from the resort to the beach. You’re also in a prime location for exploring Tulum’s rich history, the National Park and ancient ruins are well worth a visit, after finishing up a healthy serving of fried eggs and black beans served on a crispy corn tortilla and throwing back a freshly squeezed juice or two.
