A man who went surfing in the sea off Punta Piedra, despite the beaches being under red flags due to the presence of a “Surada”, was close to drowning, but was saved by municipal Civil Protection personnel.
For the last four days the port has been closed to navigation and the beaches have red flags hung to indicate that the sea conditions are unsafe, due to the strong winds of the current “Surada”.
Despite the above, a young man decided to enter the water this afternoon, to surf the waves with his wake board (a smaller surfboard), but was quickly swept away by the current.
Civil Protection personnel were alerted by citizens and managed to rescue the man and take him to the shore, at Punta Piedra, in the coastal area of this municipal capital.
The citizen was exhausted, but did not require medical attention.
