A real estate development was closed in Tulum by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) for biodiversity crimes, damage caused by the construction of residential lots.

According to a press release, it was decided to close a property located in the Jacinto Pat ejido, on the Tulum-Cobá highway, where the development promotes on social networks the sale of residential lots with access to 10 cenotes.

The federal authority found water absorption machinery, as well as logging of protected species of Chit palm, a species protected by Semarnat.

It was reported that said machinery implied damage to biodiversity and the environment, due to the removal of vegetation, as well as non-forest land use, for which reason the property was placed under the custody of the National Guard.

Elements of the National Guard, the State Attorney General’s Office, Quintana Roo State Police and Profepa, among other authorities, participated in the operation.

Information to which The Tulum Times had access indicates that the real estate development in question corresponds to the “Viventum” development.

This real estate company promotes itself on its website as “a development of semi-urbanized lots with presence in the Riviera Maya and vision towards the future, thanks to our unique amenities, such as an ecotourism park with 10 virgin cenotes”.

They also highlight the “strategic location with proximity to archaeological sites and future commercial projects such as the Mayan Train and the Tulum International Airport”.
