U.S. Consul General Explores New Vistas in Tulum

TULUM, México – Dorothy Ngutter, the United States Consul General in Mérida, embarked on an unprecedented visit to the ninth municipality. Her discussions with Mayor Diego Castañón and David Ortiz Mena, Vice President of the Caribbean Hotel Council, delved into pivotal topics spanning economic collaboration, security, environmental conservation, and tourism.

As the sun-kissed shores of Tulum attract tens of thousands of American tourists annually, the consul general’s inaugural visit marked a compelling testament to the town’s growing significance as a thriving tourist destination.

During their meeting, a commitment was solidified to establish seamless communication and coordination to safeguard the well-being of U.S. visitors. Joining the pivotal discourse were James Tobin Cunningham, a key figure in the security matrix, and Ricardo Morales Santo, the head of Tulum’s Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection.

Remarkable strides in tourism, security, and sustainability underscored the deliberations. As the Vice President of the Caribbean Hotel Council, David Ortiz Mena emphasized the pivotal nature of forging robust ties with stakeholders from the primary source of visitors to the region.

Notably, an astounding 72% of Tulum’s visitors are of international origin, underscoring the global appeal of this paradisiacal haven.
