Coparmex to promote Riviera Maya as medical tourism destination for 2023

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Several projects to promote Riviera Maya have been announced by Coparmex. On Wednesday, members of the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) Riviera Maya presented their 2023 National Tourism Plan.

During the news conference, which was headed by Bernardo Cueto, the Secretary of Quintana Roo Tourism, Marc Pujol Folch, president of Coparmex Riviera Maya, reported on the upcoming projects.

Floch said that among the 2023 projects for Riviera Maya tourism is to achieve a certification for digital nomads for Quintana Roo, which, he said, “is intended to be later taken nationally.”

He also said that their priority for the region this year will be to promote it as a medical tourism destination.

“It is one of our priorities for this year, to consolidate Quintana Roo as a destination for medical tourism since we have everything to make it so. We have the best hotels, the best doctors and is something we must work on at the country level in this aspect,” he said.

Another project, which will begin at the end of February, is Biofest in Tulum. Folch said that it will be an event where associations and representatives of federal and state agencies will participate to design sustainability and environmental protection strategies.

He pointed out that this event is the most important of its kind in Latin America and “will represent a before and after in terms of sustainability, in terms of tourism in our state.”

He said it is being held in Tulum because the city “has to function as a sustainable destination and position itself as a tourist destination in this matter,” adding that it is something they hope to host every year.

Coparmex Riviera Maya also explained that they are working on promoting domestic tourism with new marketing projects in conjunction with the state government to consolidate new routes with other cities in the country.

During the news conference, Bernardo Cueto said a committee will be formed this year to promote Riviera Maya as a medical tourism destination and that they will also promote to companies who want to invest in the area.
