AMLO announces that Tren Maya will advance on a cable-stayed bridge in the Tulum-Playa section
The director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), Diego Prieto Hernández, announced that the Mayan Train will have four eco-archaeological sites near Playa del Carmen in order to exhibit to the public ancient Maya vestiges found in the area.
In the company of Mexico’s president Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the state governor, Mara Lezama Espinosa, the federal official pointed out that these places will form a cultural corridor that will be located on the sides of section 5.”It is planned to make a walk to the southern part of the Playa del Carmen station, in front of Puerto Aventuras that includes four archaeological sites:
- Paamul 2
- The Jaguar’s Claw cave
- The Cueva de las Manitas
- The Ocho Balas cave”
In this context, Lopez Obrador assured that the cable-stayed bridge project of the Tulum-Cancún section is a sample that the engineering used has an ecological and cultural dimension.”It means the protection of underground rivers, caves, cenotes and it is being fought, truly protecting the environment, not in a demagogic way,” he added.
Obrador did not waste the chance to talk trash about the people who oppose his project, and said, “There are some who opposed the Maya Train and who destroyed everything, they made artificial underground rivers inside their lands… they have created banks of material and sended gravel to the United States… they even have archaeological sites inside their properties,” AMLO exclaimed in his demagogic way, probably referring to Grupo Xcaret.
For her part, Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama pointed out that “with the Maya Train construction (the bridge) many archaeological remains have been rediscovered.”
“The Maya Train is the spearhead for the whole world to discover these natural wonders that our ancestors left us,” the governor concluded.
