New Horizons for Tulum Travelers via AIFA

TULUM, Mexico – Aeroméxico, Mexico’s flag carrier, has recently revived its direct flight route from Mexico City International Airport (AICM) to Boston’s Logan Airport (BOS), a move celebrated with a ceremony at Logan Airport on March 22, a day after the inaugural flight. The event was graced by notable figures such as Todd Smith, Massport’s Director of Operations; Felipe Cuéllar, Mexico’s Deputy Consul General in Boston; John Angel, Director of Airport Operations at Delta; and José Zapata, Delta’s Vice President of Sales for the U.S., Canada, and Latin America. This addition marks the 20th U.S. destination for Aeroméxico, with further expansions planned through a codeshare strategy with Delta Air Lines, aiming to operate 60 joint routes between the two countries by year’s end.

The daily flights are serviced by Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, accommodating 15 passengers in Premier Class and 150 in Tourist Class, thereby offering nearly 10,000 seats per month between the two cities. The outbound flight departs Mexico City at 12:50 LT, arriving in Boston after five and a half hours at 20:20 LT, while the return flight leaves Boston at 10:05 LT to reach Mexico City by 14:15 LT.

Andrés Conesa, CEO of Aeroméxico, expressed his enthusiasm about the route’s reinstatement. He highlighted it as a milestone for providing the only non-stop service between these cities, thus saving passengers valuable time. This reinstatement is part of Aeroméxico’s commitment to connecting Mexico with the world through efficient and direct routes.

Moreover, Aeroméxico announced a strategic shift for its operations to Tulum, transitioning flights from AICM to originate from Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) starting May 2. This adjustment responds to lower-than-anticipated demand and the imperative to optimize operations amidst slot restrictions at AICM. However, this does not diminish Tulum’s connectivity, as flights to Cancún, paired with ground transportation options, will continue to serve travelers heading to Tulum and the Riviera Maya.
