Tulum Goes Global: Dubai Showcases ‘Hecho en Tulum’ to the Arab World

Dubai’s Arabian Travel Market (ATM) showcased the “Made in Tulum” brand to architects, decorators, and consumers in the Middle East and North Africa due to the quality, beauty, and high art of the women and men of the Mayan Caribbean.

According to the statement, Jorge Mario Molina Perez, the General Director of Tourism in Tulum, reported that Tulum, Quintana Roo, and Mexico will be present from May 1st to May 4th at The Art Of Living Mall in Dubai, the first of its kind, specializing in innovative solutions in interior design and high-end furniture for homes.

“This is a unique opportunity for the artists, artisans, and designers of Tulum because the Arab world is recognizing the quality, originality, and exquisite nature of their products,” said Molina Perez.

The official stated that Tulum’s participation in the Dubai ATM is possible thanks to the excellent relationship that Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa and the municipal president, Diego Castañón Trejo, maintain with the Mexican Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CAMIC).

“This has allowed us to hold meetings with key players in Sustainable Tourism and Conscious Luxury, which will result in tangible benefits for the municipality of Tulum and the state of Quintana Roo,” added the Director of Tourism in Tulum.

During this important meeting in Saudi Arabia, the delegation from Tulum presents Mayan art made by over 35 brands founded in eight communities of the ninth municipality, which feature over 400 textile, furniture, decoration, and other products in their catalog.

According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Tourism, Tulum is experiencing an unprecedented boom. In 2022, it received 1,785,897 visitors compared to 1,064,593 in 2021, which is 59% more tourists. If compared with 2019, when 1,274,948 travelers visited before the lockdown, the ancient city of Zamá received 40% more visitors.

Furthermore, the data indicates that there has been no need to lower prices in Tulum, as has happened in other destinations. On the contrary, the average expenditure in this burgeoning tourist gem had a rebound in 2022. The economic contribution from tourism reached the figure of $2,214.51 million dollars, 148% more than in 2021 and 72% more than in 2019, before the health crisis.

“For Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo, this is the perfect moment to meet the demand of a luxury market that loves the culture, art, community, and nature of Tulum. Part of that market is undoubtedly in Dubai. The presence of the Hecho en Tulum brand in The Art Of Living Mall this week will connect our artists with that audience. It’s exciting,” said Jorge Mario Molina Pérez.

The Art Of Living Mall opened its doors on April 13th in the heart of Dubai, with a total area of 50,000 square meters. Its three levels feature prestigious local, regional, and international brands such as Yellowkorner, La Maisonaire, Garda Decor, Kaas, Dimora, Storia, and the Quintana Roo brand Hecho en Tulum.
