American Airlines Leads the Way to Tulum

TULUM, México – Starting this Thursday, the Riviera Maya’s gateway for travelers will see a notable expansion beyond the familiar Cancún International. Marking a milestone in aviation history, American Airlines inaugurates its first flight from Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) to the newly operational Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport (TQO) in Tulum, heralding a new chapter in connectivity between the United States and this jewel of the Mexican Caribbean.

Flight 1131, embarking on its historic journey at 8:15 a.m., is poised to etch its name as the first U.S. carrier to grace the Tulum skies and the debut international flight since the airport welcomed its first commercial operations in December 2023. This three-hour voyage culminates in a landing at TQO at 11 a.m., where passengers will be greeted not just with the warmth typical of Mexican hospitality but with vibrant Mexican Folklorico dance performances, delectable treats, and thematic decorations, celebrating the occasion in grand style.

Joining American in this new route are international carriers, including AeroMexico, Mexicana, Delta, Viva, Spirit, and United Airlines. Delta Airlines, matching the inaugural enthusiasm, will launch its services from Atlanta to Tulum on the same day. United Airlines is not far behind, scheduling flights from New York/Newark, Los Angeles, Houston, and Chicago starting March 31. Although Spirit’s anticipated entry into the Tulum airspace has been momentarily postponed, the collective effort from these airlines signals robust confidence in Tulum’s allure as a premier destination.
