TULUM, Mexico—In a significant move to bolster security ahead of the Easter holiday season, Tulum’s Safety Cabinet, encompassing three levels of government and the business sector, has pledged to fortify the beloved tourist destination. This collaborative effort, initiated by orders from Quintana Roo’s Governor, Mara Lezama, brings together a diverse group committed to ensuring Tulum’s safety and prosperity.

The Coordination Group for the Construction of Peace and Security in Quintana Roo gathered in Tulum, showcasing a unified front among municipal authorities led by Diego Castañón Trejo, entrepreneurs, and hoteliers. This assembly marked a significant commitment from all social sectors and government levels to continue their efforts to enhance Tulum’s security and justice procurement.

Significant progress has been noted in these areas, prompting the attendees to renew their pledge to double down on their efforts. The ultimate goal remains clear: to advance the peace and well-being of Quintana Roo’s residents and visitors.

Among the notable attendees were Raciel López Salazar, the head of the State’s Attorney General’s Office; Julio César Gómez Torres, Secretary of Citizen Security of Quintana Roo; Cristina Torres Gómez, Secretary of Government; and José de la Peña Ruiz de Chávez, Coordinator of the Security Cabinet. Also present were Tulum’s Mayor, Diego Castañón, and the city’s Secretary of Security, Pedro Jaramillo.

The business sector’s representation included Julio Villarreal Zapata, President of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac), and David Ortiz Mena, President of the Tulum Hotel Association. Their presence underscored the sector’s commitment to collaborating with government authorities at all levels to secure a safer Tulum, as directed by Governor Mara Lezama.
