At The Tulum Times, our inbox and social media platforms are inundated almost daily with distressing accounts from tourists who have fallen victim to local and federal law enforcement overreach and the actions of taxi mafias and other unsavory elements within Tulum. While we have chosen not to publish every story received to avoid further alarming the community, the sustained increase in such incidents compels us to shine a light on these troubling patterns.
Many tourists, including couples, share harrowing tales of being caught in dangerous situations, extorted by local and federal security forces into compromising and degrading scenarios.
