Tulum’s Archaeological Zone Expects Surge in Visitors with the Launch of the Tren Maya

TULUM, México – In a recent announcement by Margarito Molina, the delegate of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) in Quintana Roo, it has been revealed that Tulum’s archaeological zone, already renowned as one of Mexico’s top three most visited sites, could experience a staggering increase in visitor numbers following the implementation of the Tren Maya project.

Molina predicts that this railway project will effectively add an additional million visitors annually to the already bustling archaeological zone. He further emphasized that during certain periods of the year, Tulum’s archaeological site becomes the most visited in the entire country. As a result, it is imperative that the destination is adequately prepared to accommodate the influx of tourists who will undoubtedly flock to this historic site.

Expanding on the potential impact of the Tren Maya, Molina pointed out that the project will also serve as a catalyst for promoting the archaeological zone of Muyil, which he believes has not received the recognition it deserves. With the development of the railway system, Muyil stands to gain more visibility and become a cultural and tourist attraction in its own right. Recognizing this opportunity, efforts are already underway to enhance and improve the infrastructure and facilities at the Muyil site.

Additionally, the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, unveiled a proposal featuring 64 different packages and itineraries for the 20 stations that will form part of the Tren Maya network. Torruco Marqués believes that the railway project will greatly enhance tourism flow, economic growth, and per capita spending in the Southeast region of Mexico. With a wide array of activities to choose from, tourists will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich cultural and natural wonders that the area has to offer.
