Cenote Angelita, the spooky and deep “Double Cenote” in Tulum

The most impressive underwater forest.

We never cease to be impressed every day, as there are hundreds and thousands of cenotes around the Yucatan Peninsula, each one more incredible than the last, and this time is no exception.

Cenote Angelita can be found in the Riviera Maya, located precisely in Tulum; continuing with the surrealism that we can find in Tulum, we add this incredible underwater scenery that will leave more than one of our readers with their mouths open.

Its attraction is due to the thick cloud that forms at the bottom of the cenote, which is nothing more and nothing less than hydrogen sulfate found at 27 meters deep; the cloud tries to mix with the salt water, but being heavier it is impossible and generates an alternating water current.

It seems that it is a visual effect, but it is a completely natural formation, you just have to enjoy the resulting landscape, because it looks like another river that runs underwater. As if that were not enough, to complete the effect, there are trunks and remains of vegetation that fall into the cenote, creating an “underwater forest”.

You can only enter the cenote with a life vest in case you are not an expert diver, and since you are not qualified, you will not be able to submerge, much less without the proper diving equipment.

But of course, if you are an expert diver you will be able to dive below the cloud and when you go through it you will have the joy of observing the impressive underwater “forest”, and you will realize that as you dive it will become much thicker due to all the vegetation that is found there.

There is a Tour Operator called Agua Clara Diving Tulum, which makes excursions to the cenote. We must emphasize again, that depending on the regulations of the cenote and the guides, you will be allowed or not to go down to dive, even enter or not to the cenote, remember that you must be a fairly experienced diver because the tour reaches up to 40 meters deep in total and the difficulty is high.
