TULUM, Mexico – The Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport in Tulum has recently opened its runways to international flights from four major U.S. cities—Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, and Miami—ushering in a new era of connectivity and cultural exchange for the Mexican Caribbean’s heartland. This development, championed by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, is poised to significantly enrich the visitor experience in Quintana Roo’s central and southern regions, highlighting the area’s rich Mayan culture, traditions, gastronomy, and breathtaking natural beauty.

Governor Lezama Espinosa expressed her excitement about the potential impact of these new connections. “This will enrich the experience of our visitors, and we are very excited about what this will represent for the central and southern areas of Quintana Roo,” she said. The initiative is expected to facilitate over 6,160 passengers each week to immerse themselves in the local culture and natural wonders this part of the Caribbean offers.

The inauguration of these routes marks a milestone for the Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport as it welcomes international flights for the first time. Delta and American Airlines, two of the world’s leading carriers, have launched these routes, significantly enhancing Tulum’s accessibility. On Thursday, March 28, American Airlines celebrated its inaugural flights to Tulum. Four flights arrived throughout the day, each fully booked, bringing an average of 600 passengers.

During a visit to Tulum, accompanied by municipal and aviation authorities, Governor Lezama Espinosa shared her enthusiasm for these new flights, which directly connect the heart of the Mayan region with the United States. This strategic move is expected to boost tourism and economic growth in the area, providing a substantial influx of travelers eager to explore Tulum’s unique offerings.
