TULUM, México – As the Tianguis Turístico 2024 unfolds in Acapulco, the skies above Mexico are witnessing a significant expansion. Viva Aerobús, a leading low-cost airline, has officially announced a new flight route from Mexico City to Chetumal, marking a strategic move to enhance connectivity within the country. Though made at the prestigious travel fair, this announcement comes after the route started operating a week ago, underscoring the airline’s commitment to improving domestic travel.

Walfred Castro Novelo, Director of Communications at Viva Aerobús, shared that this new route to Chetumal is just the beginning. The airline is also launching six additional routes across Mexico, including a year-round service between Monterrey and Cozumel, previously a seasonal offering. This expansion is a testament to Viva Aerobús’s dedication to facilitating travel and tourism within Mexico, offering more options for passengers and potentially boosting local economies.

In a parallel development, Governor Mara Lezama announced Aeroméxico’s new route from the Santa Lucía airport to the recently inaugurated Felipe Carrillo Puerto Airport in Tulum. Starting May 2, two daily flights will reflect the government’s and the private sector’s collaborative efforts to promote Tulum as a premier destination. This route is expected to significantly contribute to the area’s accessibility and appeal to both domestic and international travelers.

Adding to the aviation landscape, Aerus, a taxi-air service, is set to launch operations from Cancún to Mérida and Cozumel starting May 13, with five daily frequencies. Additionally, a service between Cancún and Chetumal will commence on June 1, offering three weekly flights. A daily service from Cozumel to Chichén Itzá is also on the cards, providing an exclusive opportunity to explore one of the world’s most iconic archaeological sites with ease.

Volaris is not staying behind in this air travel renaissance. The airline confirmed a new route from Guadalajara to Tulum starting December 5. This addition is crucial for connecting one of Mexico’s largest cities with the Caribbean jewel, enhancing the region’s appeal to a broader audience.

The inauguration of the Mexican Caribbean pavilion at the Tianguis Turístico, alongside unveiling the “New Era” promotional campaign, signifies a concerted effort to position Quintana Roo’s twelve destinations on the international stage. The pavilion, sprawling over 450 square meters, featured 16 companies and hotel associations dedicated to promoting the region’s diverse attractions. This initiative, coupled with Quintana Roo winning 12 TripAdvisor awards, including the best beach destination, heralds a promising future for tourism in the area.
