TULUM, Mexico – In a historic moment marked by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, Tulum took a significant stride towards prosperity with the inauguration of the “Jungle Airport.” Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo confidently asserted that this new airport would swiftly become the region’s second major gateway for travelers and currency, bolstering the southeastern part of Mexico.

This morning, President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, alongside Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa and Tulum’s Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo, inaugurated the Tulum International Airport. Standing in the imposing terminal, President López Obrador expressed gratitude to Lezama Espinosa and Castañón Trejo for their commitment to securing the land for this transformative aviation hub.

During his address, the Mexican leader highlighted the dedication shown by both officials in reaching a crucial agreement with local farmers, emphasizing its positive impact on community well-being. In a prior interview, Tulum’s mayor acknowledged the exemplary leadership demonstrated by state and federal authorities in completing this unprecedented aviation project in record time for Mexico and Latin America.

“We are thrilled. Our President and Governor accompany us. This project will drive prosperity in Tulum,” stated Mayor Castañón Trejo. He further elaborated that Tulum is poised to quickly become the second key entry point for travelers and currency in the southeastern region, thanks to the aerial connectivity provided by this new infrastructure.

“I share the vision of our governor, Mara Lezama. Our town, forgotten and marginalized for decades, sees a dream come true. Tulum is the future, and together with Tulum’s residents, we are committed to harnessing this opportunity, along with the Maya Train and Jaguar Park, to transform years of indifference into social justice,” emphasized the mayor.

Seizing the moment, Castañón Trejo personally thanked General Secretary Luis Crescencio Sandoval González and General Ricardo Vallejo for their tireless efforts in constructing the airport, highlighting their collaboration with local suppliers in the building process.
