TULUM, Mexico – In recent days, concerns have arisen as units from the Secretariat of Public Security and Citizen Protection of Tulum have begun to appear in the area with incomplete identification numbers. The local community has voiced suspicions that these units may be involved in questionable activities while on duty.

Among the units in question are 92101 and 92151, primarily spotted on the streets of the La Veleta neighborhood or within the Aldea Tulum tourist complex. Their activities appear to revolve around stopping vehicles, particularly domestic and foreign tourists.

“On a daily basis, especially during payday periods, we see these units operating in these areas on weekends when construction workers finish their shifts. They seem to set up what appear to be checkpoints, all with the apparent intention of extorting money from the laborers,” stated an anonymous source who chose not to reveal their identity out of fear of potential repercussions.

In light of these concerns, a call has been made to the Secretariat of Public Security and Citizen Protection to provide an explanation for the actions of these agents and the reasons behind the removal of their identification numbers.
