TULUM, México – After the passage of Hurricane Beryl, Tulum has returned to its daily and economic normalcy, thanks to the tireless efforts of local authorities and the community. The hurricane, which caused the fall of poles, signs, trees, water tanks, and sheets, mobilized intensive cleaning brigades throughout the municipal head, communities, and the federal highway.

The Tulum Archaeological Zone, one of the most visited in the world, will reopen on Monday, July 8, without damaging its infrastructure, mangroves, and beaches. The prompt response from the authorities and the community has been crucial in restoring the municipality’s attractive image. Diego Castañón Trejo, municipal president of Tulum, expressed his gratitude to the City Hall team and the armed forces for their cooperation before, during, and after the hurricane.

“A huge thank you to the Tulum City Hall team for their invaluable cooperation before, during, and after Hurricane Beryl. Thanks to their effort and dedication, we are restoring normalcy in our municipality. We are here to serve you. Together, we are stronger,” said Castañón Trejo.

The armed forces, which provided operational support in evacuation, aid, and social service actions, have been essential in addressing the emergency. No looting acts were reported, nor were any investigation files opened.

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport (SICT) reported that, after evaluating and diagnosing incidents on the Federal Road Network and in Rural and Feeder Roads in Quintana Roo, no major damage was found. Work has focused on cleaning up the vegetative debris generated by Beryl.

Since Friday, most businesses, including restaurants, pharmacies, and gas stations, have resumed their activities. During a tour of the ninth municipality on Saturday morning, it was observed that the downtown area was the least affected. In contrast, the coastal area registered fallen branches that obstructed the way. In Punta Piedra, the sea threw rocks and sand onto the Tulum-Boca Paila highway. On the Tulum-Playa del Carmen federal highway, the collapse of several electricity poles at kilometer 239 was quickly resolved by CFE personnel.

Tour service providers are again offering packages to different destinations, such as cenotes and adventure tours, indicating that the municipality has returned to its average pace after the hurricane.

The joint effort of Tulum’s authorities and community has once again demonstrated their resilience and ability to face adversity. The municipality’s rapid recovery is a testament to the strength and solidarity of its inhabitants, who have worked tirelessly to restore the normalcy and beauty of this iconic region of Quintana Roo.
