Tulum joins forces with tourism development program to enhance the Maya Caribbean

The Municipality of Tulum has joined the Tourism Development Program implemented by the National Tourism Fund (Fonatur), a planning tool that will boost the tourism industry with the arrival of the Mayan train in the Mexican Caribbean.

These programs were presented by Bernardo Cueto Riestra, Minister of Tourism of the State, and Ramón Enrique Martínez, General Director of Professionalization and Tourism Competitiveness of SECTUR, during Tianguis Turístico 2023.

On behalf of the city president, Diego Castañón Trejo, Maribel Cruz Rodríguez, director of Promotion and Gender Mainstreaming, received the award, which allows her to work on plans, strategies and projects for the development of tourism.

By participating in this program, Tulum will try to take advantage and exploit its tourism potential, especially through the development of the Mayan Train.

In addition, the tourism development programs allow the identification and designation of rural areas with tourism potential and the implementation of a corresponding management plan.

These programs have been developed based on the work carried out in the region through participatory workshops and have made it possible to identify the routes and projects with the greatest tourism potential to promote the growth of the smoke-free industry.
