The municipal government of Tulum, joins the strategies and preventive measures in the face of the sargassum invasion on the beaches of the Mayan Caribbean, a work that directly involves the Government of Mexico and the State Government, with the premise of preserving and offering free and quality spaces for world tourism.

This Tuesday, on behalf of Mayor Marciano Dzul Caamal, the treasurer of the Tulum City Council, Diego Castañón Trejo, held a meeting with members of the Secretariat of Ecology and Environment (SEMA), Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (ZOFEMAT), Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), among other agencies, to design strategies to deal with the sargasso.

In this sense, Castañón Trejo raised the high commitment of the municipal government headed by Marciano Dzul Caamal, to join the plan and counteract this natural phenomenon that affects the beaches of the Mexican Caribbean.

Among the points discussed was the proposal to have two sargassum collection platforms on the high seas to prevent massive beach strandings, as well as the installation of 100 kilometers of anti jellyfish and anti sargassum nets.

In his opportunity, José Ángel Pérez Pérez, from SEMA, pointed out that one of the proposals is to bring specialized equipment to the beaches of Tulum to collect the seaweed, which, together with the human effort, could achieve better results.

During the meeting, emerging actions and strategies were discussed in order to find solutions to the problem of sargassum on the beaches of the Mayan Caribbean.
