TULUM, México – Approximately 80 members of the Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (Sedena) recently participated in a specialized training session conducted by municipal Civil Protection experts. The objective of this training was to enhance the preparedness of these military personnel in responding effectively to natural disasters.
Under the guidance of Jessica Jacqueline Martínez Barrios, the head of the municipal Civil Protection department, the training took place at the Casa Ejidal de Tulum. Nearly 100 members of the military organization attended the session alongside meteorologists affiliated with the department and a few members from the National Guard assigned to similar duties.
During a brief interview, Martínez Barrios highlighted the importance of the training course, emphasizing its focus on equipping the Sedena members with the necessary knowledge to address the potential risks posed by meteorological phenomena. By participating in this program, the military personnel were able to strengthen their understanding of Civil Protection principles, enhance community self-protection capacities, heighten awareness of risks, and gain insights into novel approaches for self-management and coordination of preventive actions during potential weather-related incidents throughout the year.
