Diego Castañón Trejo was sworn in today as Mayor of Tulum, succeeding Marciano Dzul Caamal, who sadly passed away last weekend.

It was in the Ninth Extraordinary Session, where the Tulum City Council called Castañón Trejo, in terms of Articles 97 and 99 section I of the Law of the Municipalities of the State, and consecutively, swore him in as Constitutional Municipal President as established in Article 15 of the Internal Regulations of the City Council of the municipality of Tulum.

After assuming the presidency, Castañon Trejo affirmed that Dzul Caamal’s project will continue and at the same time he resigned as treasurer and took institutional oath.

“I promise to comply and enforce the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States, of the Free and Sovereign State of Quintana Roo, the laws that emanate from them, and the agreements of dispositions dictated by the City Council and to perform loyally and patriotically the office of Municipal President, looking in everything for the good and prosperity of the Nation, of the State of Quintana Roo, and of our municipality of Tulum,” he said while taking the oath of office.

The ceremony was attended by Ms. Ileana Canul de Dzul, who would continue at the head of DIF-Tulum.

With today’s swearing-in ceremony, there are eight municipal presidents who have held the highest political office in Tulum from 2009 to the present. Marciano Dzul Caamal was the first of them and won reelection in 2021, with Castañón Trejo as his alternate.

In an interview with the media, Castañón Trejo ratified that Dzul Caamal’s project will continue.

“The agreements will remain the same. There will be no change in any position, only in the treasury, and we will continue walking, we will all continue united and well, all for Tulum. This is the legacy of the president, this is what he left us and we will respect it,” he said.
