50 recently deployed marines assigned to tighten security in Tulum

Tulum, Q.R. — Another 50 of the recently arrived marines have been deployed, this time, in Tulum. On Thursday, the presence of marines in the municipality had increased by 50 after they were assigned to tighten security.

The 50 newly assigned marines are part of the 200 that arrived last week at the Cancun International Airport. They were assigned to Tulum to carry out special surveillance deployments.

Rafael Martínez Ruiz, head of the Secretary of Public Security and Citizen Protection of Tulum, reported that although there was no welcoming protocol, the marines have been supporting security operations during this week.

He explained that they have already met with the high command to coordinate the surveillance work, which will be reinforced with intelligence and technology.

He said that 25 percent of the marines sent to the state were assigned to Tulum because it is an important destination, especially for the upcoming winter holidays.

Earlier this month, Governor Mara Lezama announced the arrival of 200 marines after a meeting in Mexico City with the Secretary of the Navy, José Rafael Ojeda Durán.
