Michael J. Fox began to see his health deteriorate during the last few years due to the Parkinson’s disease he was diagnosed with in the early 90’s. It was for this reason that he slowly abandoned acting and we could only see him on screen in some special appearances. Although the Back to the Future star usually stays away from the media, this week he was photographed while enjoying a vacation in Tulum, Mexico, with his wife, Tracy Pollan. In the postcards we can see the artist accompanied by several people, who help him to move around the beach in a wheelchair.

On several occasions Michael J. Fox detailed how difficult it was for him to choose roles due to the problems he has to work. One of the central points of his complications is his memory: the actor said that he can no longer memorize long lines of dialogue due to the Parkinson’s disease he suffers from, which has progressed more and more.

The physical condition he suffers from motivated him to head a foundation named after him for the development of medical research to help cure the disease.

What Michael J. Fox said about his disease

In a chat with Mike Birbiglia for the Working It Out podcast, Fox said that over the past few years it became much harder for him to remember dialogue. “When I did the spin-off of The Good Wife, which is The Good Fight, I couldn’t remember the lines. I just had everything blank, I couldn’t remember,” the lines,” the actor explained.

Fox recalled that they used to give him scripts and he would “spit out” what he got to say. “I got to be 70 pages into a Brian De Palma movie and I knew that a hugely expensive Steadicam shot depended on me knowing those lines,” he defined.

The difficulty in memorizing deepened during the filming of The Good Fight, he recounted. It was the same problem he had had while having a part in Designated Survivor, the fondly remembered Kiefer Sutherland series.

“I had to say legal terms and I just couldn’t get it. But the interesting thing was that I didn’t panic. I just said ‘this is it, a key element of this process is memorizing lines and I can’t do it,'” he said.

So, he explained, he made a determination. “I don’t accept something with a lot of lines, because I can’t do it. And for whatever reason, it just is what it is. I can’t remember five pages of dialogue. It can’t be done. So I’m going to the beach,” he closed.
