Tulum Hotel Prices Dip as Tourism Faces Challenges
TULUM, Mexico – As the current low season continues to cast its shadow over the tourism market, certain lodging establishments have experienced a decline in room occupancy rates, according to Pedro Andrés Torres, the general manager of Aloft Tulum Hotel.
Torres pointed out that while the current occupancy rate of 30 percent is similar to the same period last year, there has been a decrease in room rates. The current rates have dropped from approximately $120 to $90.
However, he emphasized that pricing in the tourism sector, including hotels, is dictated by the ebb and flow of supply and demand throughout different times of the year.
He explained that hotels of all types are grappling with the challenges posed by the low influx of both Mexican and foreign visitors.
“It’s evident that supply and demand dynamics play out in all markets. Naturally, in a less dynamic market, we need to adopt strategies to maintain our operations. However, everything is contingent on the occupancy levels the area experiences,” Torres emphasized.
Nevertheless, he indicated that they are striving to overcome this challenging situation by implementing strategies and events aimed at attracting tourists.

He further mentioned that during this challenging time of the year, they are in the midst of an analysis and training process, eagerly awaiting the arrival of tourists to identify areas of opportunity.
“We are venturing into markets and business niches that we haven’t tapped into before, introducing people to Tulum and showcasing the rich culture and nature we have to offer, which can contribute to the economic growth during this season,” he emphasized.
Torres also stated that they are actively promoting their establishment on social media and through global booking platforms, with the goal of achieving high room occupancy rates as the year comes to a close and the new one begins.
In these uncertain times, Tulum’s hospitality sector remains resilient and determined to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of the tourism industry. While challenges persist, innovative strategies are being employed to ensure that Tulum continues to be a sought-after destination.
