Tulum Unites for its Second Massive Cleanup Event

TULUM, Mexico – Tulum is gearing up for its second massive cleanup event on October 7th and 8th, spanning 22 simultaneous waste collection points across the town. This eco-conscious initiative is spearheaded by Gerardo Nieto, the director of Tulum Circula Centro de Reciclaje, with the ultimate goal of fostering a cleaner Tulum while raising awareness among businesses, the government, and the local community about responsible waste management.

Nieto emphasized the significance of this endeavor, stating, “We are embarking on our second massive cleanup—a conservation activity that rallies businesses, the government, and the community. We will be tackling 22 simultaneous cleanup sites, targeting avenues, streets, beaches, pathways, mangroves, and natural areas. Our objective is to remove waste from these ecosystems responsibly, ensuring that both garbage and recyclables find a suitable final destination, such as the landfill.”

He extended an open invitation to all segments of society, encouraging participation in this movement. Anyone interested need only arrive in comfortable attire with protective gear for weather conditions. Nieto elaborated on the logistics, saying, “These cleanup sessions commence at 9 in the morning and conclude at noon. Volunteers simply need to wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, and sunscreen. The organizers will provide cleaning kits for the coordinated cleanup.”

Nieto also revealed that each cleanup point would have a designated coordinator to provide instructions on responsible waste management. Volunteers will learn about the categories and classifications of the materials they collect from public spaces.

In the previous edition, over 200 participants joined forces to collect more than 1,200 kilograms of waste. This year, organizers are determined to surpass these impressive figures, aiming for an even more impactful cleanup.

By participating in this event, you’re not only contributing to a cleaner and more beautiful Tulum but also gaining a deeper understanding of the importance of responsible waste management. Join hands with fellow residents, businesses, and the government to make a positive difference in our beloved community.
