TULUM, México – The ambitious expansion of the Tulum Airport runway is nearing its completion. This Saturday will mark the culmination of an impressive 3,700 linear meters of tarmac, as announced by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador during his recent visit to the state of Quintana Roo. The President’s visit not only focused on the airport’s progress but also encompassed a comprehensive inspection of various infrastructure projects in the southeastern region of Mexico, most notably the highly-anticipated Tren Maya.
Highlighting the importance of these projects to the region’s growth, President López Obrador reaffirmed his commitment to the timely execution of the Tren Maya, set to commence its first official voyage on September 1, with a grand inauguration planned for December 2023.
Yesterday’s site visit was met with the presence of Quintana Roo’s Governor, Mara Lezama, who accompanied President López Obrador during the inspection of federal government-led initiatives in the area. Governor Lezama took the opportunity to announce a groundbreaking project that would establish a unique connection between the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto and the sea through an “artisanal route” to Vigía Chico.
Expressing her gratitude for collaborating with federal authorities on projects that have the potential to transform the heart of the Mayan region, Governor Mara Lezama lauded the efforts being made to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth in Tulum. Both the Tren Maya and the Tulum International Airport are integral to these aspirations, attracting attention from across the nation and beyond.
As the Tulum Airport expansion enters its final phase, travelers and investors alike eagerly await the positive impacts it will have on the region’s tourism industry. With increased runway capacity, the airport is expected to accommodate larger aircraft and handle a higher volume of visitors, positioning Tulum as a premier destination on the global stage.
