TULUM, Mexico – The spirit of unity and patriotic fervor illuminated the streets of Tulum on September 15th as the town came together to commemorate Mexico’s Independence Day. The event, featuring a high-caliber civic and cultural program, was led by the Municipal President, Diego Castañón Trejo, who spearheaded the festivities from the heart of the city.
The gathering commenced promptly at 9:30 p.m., with musicians and dancers taking the stage to showcase the deepest values of the Mexican nation through their performances. Citizens and visitors alike found themselves immersed in an atmosphere of pride and excitement as artistic expressions filled the night.
Subsequently, an emotional video recounting the crucial events of September 15, 1810, when Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla initiated the struggle for independence, was projected. The audience, captivated by the visual representation of this heroic chapter in history, warmly welcomed the Municipal Band at the conclusion of the screening.
One of the most significant moments of this festive evening unfolded when the giant screens broadcasted the early release of prisoners, following a tradition inspired by the gesture made by the Father of the Nation, Miguel Hidalgo, on the night of the 1810 Independence Day. He had released prisoners to bolster his insurgent contingent.
At 11 pm, Jorge Portilla Mánica, the Secretary General of the Municipality, addressed the crowd to read the “Sentiments of the Nation,” a document that encapsulates the essence of the independence struggle and was promulgated on September 14, 1813, during the opening of the Anahuac Congress. Attendees listened attentively, reflecting on the legacy of courage and sacrifice left by those who fought for freedom.
The emotionally charged crowd, deeply connected to their history and culture, welcomed the mayor immediately after the reading, marking the official protocol of the night. This included the rendition of the Quintana Roo and Mexican National Anthems, followed by the traditional Cry of Independence. From the main balcony of the Tulum Municipal Palace, proudly waving the Mexican flag, the Municipal President proclaimed, “¡Viva México!” eliciting a resounding “¡Viva!” from all in attendance.
To conclude the event, a drone display illuminated the night sky with patriotic symbols, choreographed to the rhythm of Mexican music. As the grand finale, the renowned Grupo Mojado graced the stage, delighting the audience. In unity and fraternity, they commemorated the most significant date on the Mexican calendar.
