The head of the State Secretary of Tourism guaranteed the safety of tourists in Tulum

The head of the State Secretariat of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, guaranteed the attention and safety of tourists, which is reflected in the success of the destination, and pointed out that the alerts to American travelers who want to visit the Mexican Caribbean is “just a recommendation like any other”.

The official indicated that Sedetur’s responsibility is to work together with the Tourism Promotion Council so that there are more visitors and to provide proper attention and safety to tourists. “This is an effort of all of us, of the inhabitants, tourism service providers and the authorities to generate conditions to continue being a reference in tourism at world level”, he emphasized.

In an interview, he reiterated that the State Department’s recommendations to its travelers are something normal in these “spring break” seasons to orient young people about the dangers involved in traveling to any part of the world. In fact, he emphasized that in talks with the U.S. consulate it is expected that more and more of their citizens will come to the Mexican Caribbean, consolidating as the most important segment for the destination with eight million Americans.

On another matter, he said they are prepared to be, as they are every year, among the main protagonists of the Tianguis Turístico de México, to be held in Mexico City from the 26th to the 29th of this month, where they will seek to consolidate alliances, strengthen markets and attract more domestic air connections with national and foreign destinations. In fact, he pointed out that one of the strengths of the destination is the wide air connection it has, and that it is getting stronger every day, as is the fact that they recently inaugurated two new connections, one direct from Ecuador to Cancun and the other from Monterrey to Cozumel.

No serious incidents during the current “spring break” season Mayor Ana Patricia Peralta de la Peña emphasized that in order to guarantee the safety and the best experience for visitors to Cancun, supervision and surveillance operations are being maintained on beaches, bars and areas of great affluence; as well as the presence of lifeguards on the beaches and close communication with consular representatives from other countries, travel agencies and the hotel sector to provide immediate response in case of any situation.

The municipal president emphasized that during these first days of Spring Break no incidents have been reported in the Hotel Zone, however, prevention remains permanent, verifying on a daily basis at the security table with authorities from the three levels of government that the peace and well-being of both residents and visitors is maintained.

In addition, he reiterated that the alert issued by the U.S. government regarding dangerous situations in destinations such as Cancun, refers to a suggestion for tourists leaving their country, not necessarily a state of emergency in Mexico’s destinations. “It is a general alert issued for the entire Mexican Republic and specifically for the Spring Break season, we had communication with the consul and it is not an alarming issue”, he clarified.
