How Tulum Fire Department Scored 95% in Rescue Standards

TULUM, Mexico – In a significant achievement, the Tulum Fire Department has secured certification in Urban Search and Rescue, enabling them to undertake national and international missions. Director Benjamin Heredia Monforte emphasized the crucial role of having accredited personnel with technical and operational skills and emergency management expertise.

This validation follows a rigorous earthquake and building collapse simulation, evaluated by 12 experts overseeing administrative and operational procedures. Heredia Monforte announced that four department members are now part of the International Rescue Brigade in Cancun. With national accreditation achieved, the Tulum firefighters scored an impressive 95% compliance with standards.

With this milestone, the Tulum firefighters now hold accreditation in Urban Search and Rescue, empowering them to use the MX-11 Code for participation in national and international missions. The director expressed the intention to increase the number of accredited personnel, outlining plans for additional training courses in collaboration with the International Rescue Brigade in Cancun.

The goal is to have eight certified first responders establish a dedicated unit in Tulum, enhancing emergency response capabilities in the municipality. Heredia Monforte underscored the strong bond and cooperation between the International Rescue Brigade in Cancun and the Tulum Fire Department, emphasizing the significance of their practice field equipped with simulators for cutting and penetrating collapsed structures.
