The Professional Golfers Association (PGA) officially announced this Thursday that the PGA Riviera Maya course, located at the Tulum Country Club, will host the final international event of the 2025 Korn Ferry Tour. Scheduled from May 1 to 4, this event marks the seventh and last stop of the tour’s international leg. The PGA also revealed that an agreement has been reached to hold the competition in Quintana Roo until 2027, further strengthening Tulum’s ties with world-class golf.

Alex Baldwin, president of the Korn Ferry Tour, expressed her gratitude to the people of Tulum for their ongoing partnership with the PGA TOUR. She highlighted that, after four successful seasons as a host for both the PGA TOUR Americas and PGA TOUR Latinoamérica, the decision was made to designate PGA Riviera Maya as a new home for this prestigious event.

A World-Class Challenge

Sergio González, Director of Golf at PGA Riviera Maya, acknowledged the honor of being recognized by the PGA TOUR and the Korn Ferry Tour.

“Our course has been designed to test the best players in the world, and we are excited to see how Korn Ferry Tour members rise to the unique challenge presented by the heart of the Riviera Maya,” González stated.

The 2025 Korn Ferry Tour season will feature 26 tournaments, with a strong presence in Latin America, including stops in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Panama. The PGA Riviera Maya Championship will conclude the international portion of the tour before it returns to the United States for the season’s final stretch.

Tulum: A Premier Destination for Golf and More

Tulum continues to establish itself as one of the premier destinations for vacations and sports, particularly golf. For the third consecutive year, the World Travel Awards named it the top beach destination in Mexico and Central America, and it ranked sixth nationally in Tripadvisor’s Best of the Best 2024. Tulum’s prestige as a travel and sports destination is only growing.

At the heart of this success is the PGA Riviera Maya, one of Mexico’s most renowned golf courses. The 18-hole, par 72 course is set in a natural environment, surrounded by lakes, cenotes, and breathtaking landscapes. This gem of course design has hosted national and international tournaments and is part of the PGA of America’s Latin American network.

An Expanding Sports Culture

Golf is quickly becoming a tradition in the southeast region of Mexico, with the PGA Riviera Maya Golf Club playing a pivotal role in this growth. In collaboration with the new Tulum International Airport, “Felipe Carrillo Puerto,” and the tourism brand Visit Tulum, the club celebrated National Golf Lovers’ Day with family-friendly activities to bring more people into the sport.

Sergio González, Deputy Director of Golf at PGA Riviera Maya, emphasized the importance of this collaboration:

“Having a world-class airport in Tulum allows us to offer an unparalleled golf experience to our visitors. This privileged access attracts players from the U.S. and Mexico but also from across Latin America and Europe, cementing Tulum as a leading destination for sports tourism.”

This initiative, which promotes the growth of golf while supporting the local economy and tourism, reflects Tulum’s vision of creating a healthy and enjoyable environment for visitors and residents alike. With such prestigious events and world-class facilities, Tulum is poised to become a global golf hub in the future.

At The Tulum Times, we will continue to follow the developments of this exciting partnership, which positions Tulum at the forefront of the international sports scene and offers both residents and tourists unique and memorable experiences.
