TULUM, México – The long-awaited Management Program summary for Tulum National Park was released this Friday. The document, eagerly anticipated by environmentalists, local business owners, and service providers, now sets forth established guidelines for the site’s use and conservation.
The publication, issued by the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), delineates the park, situated in the Tulum municipality of Quintana Roo state, as spanning 664 hectares. This area, declared a national park in April 1981, encompasses a remarkable array of ecosystems.
Despite its relatively modest size, Tulum National Park boasts a diverse environment, featuring unique mangroves, low forests, wetlands, coastal dune scrubs, extensive underground rivers, beaches, and cenotes. These natural features not only provide breathtaking scenery but also serve as critical refuges for a wide variety of flora and fauna, supporting their feeding, breeding, and sheltering needs.
The Management Program can be accessed for review at the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (Conanp) offices in Mexico City, the Regional Directorate of the Yucatan Peninsula and Mexican Caribbean in Cancún, located on Mayapán Sur Avenue, superblock 21, and at the Semarnat representative offices in Quintana Roo, situated on Kukulcán Boulevard, kilometer 4.8, in the hotel zone of Cancún.
