From Tulum to the World

TULUM, México – Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa recently accompanied President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on a tour to supervise sections 5, 6, and 7 of the Mayan Train, a project heralded as the “train of social justice” in Quintana Roo. This inspection also included a visit to the Tulum International Airport, a rapidly emerging hub with confirmed connections to 19 airports across Mexico and beyond.

Governor Lezama emphasized the significance of these developments in transforming the state profoundly. The new Tulum International Airport, coupled with the Mayan Train, aligns with the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo. These projects aim to bridge gaps of inequality and foster shared prosperity.

In a short span, the Tulum International Airport has established itself as a pivotal connection point for the central region of the state, linking both the central and southern areas to the global stage. Governor Lezama highlighted the airport’s swift rise as a regional reference during the tour.

The Mayan Train, as Governor Lezama pointed out, is expected to spur economic growth along its tracks. The creation of “well-being markets” along the route will provide Mayan artisans an opportunity to showcase and sell their handcrafted products, celebrating their unique cultural heritage.

Furthermore, the project is a significant employment generator, strengthening the economies of local municipalities and enhancing the quality of life for families, particularly those in the Mayan communities along the route. This initiative not only aims to boost local economies but also to preserve and promote the rich cultural tapestry of the Mayan people.

These projects are more than just infrastructural developments; they represent a commitment to social and economic inclusivity. By integrating modern transportation with traditional Mayan culture, the government of Quintana Roo is not only improving connectivity but also nurturing a sense of pride and ownership among the indigenous communities.

As these initiatives move forward, they promise to reshape the landscape of Quintana Roo, positioning Tulum and its surrounding regions as key players in Mexico’s journey toward a more equitable and prosperous future.
