AMLO’s Visit Reveals Impressive Progress of Tren Maya and Tulum Airport

TULUM, Quintana Roo – In a significant move to ensure the timely completion of the transformative Tren Maya project and the construction of the new Tulum International Airport, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador conducted a thorough inspection visit on Saturday, June 17, to assess the progress made in the state of Quintana Roo.

The president was accompanied by Quintana Roo’s governor, Mara Lezama, who presented ambitious plans to connect Felipe Carrillo Puerto with a dignified coastal access through an artisanal pathway leading to Vigía Chico.

Taking to Twitter, Governor Lezama expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Together with our President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, we toured and inspected the progress of Tren Maya in Quintana Roo and the construction of the new Tulum International Airport. Additionally, projects were unveiled to connect Felipe Carrillo Puerto with a dignified coastal access through the artisanal pathway to Vigía Chico, a historic and emblematic location for the social struggle of the Mayan people.”

Governor Lezama emphasized that these infrastructure developments aim to spur economic growth and foster social justice in the heart of the Mayan region.

Joining the president and the governor on this inspection visit were General Luis Cresencio Sandoval, the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena), Javier May, the Director-General of Fonatur and the person in charge of the Tren Maya project, along with other officials.

The Tren Maya project, which spans approximately 1,525 kilometers and is set to connect various important tourist destinations in the Yucatan Peninsula, is a centerpiece of President López Obrador’s administration.
