It began with a simple idea — that truth, told with clarity and care, can build something lasting. No offices, no press passes, no guarantees. Just a shared vision and a question: could a digital platform become a trusted voice for a town as dynamic, complex, and watched as Tulum?
Today, with over 20,000 followers on Instagram, more than 750,000 accounts reached every month, and upwards of 21,000 unique visitors exploring our website — many from the United States, Mexico, Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom — we can say this with conviction: yes, it can. And it has.
But numbers alone don’t tell the whole story. Behind these milestones are values. Behind the growth is trust. And behind every post, article, or design, there is a team of real people — professionals in journalism, marketing, design, and communication — working with one shared goal: to inform, connect, and uplift.
From the beginning, we chose the long road — the one with intention. In a media landscape often drawn to extremes, we made a conscious decision to stand for balance. That meant saying no to sensationalism. No to headlines built on fear. No to the repetition of violence and corruption that, while real, does not define the whole of Tulum.
Our editorial line has always been clear
We do not cover stories involving cartels, drug trafficking, extortion, or the criminal underworld. Not because they don’t exist, but because we refuse to give more visibility to the forces that damage our community. Others already do. We decided to focus on the stories that build, inform, and, where necessary, challenge — but always toward solutions.
We report on policies that affect daily life. On the environment that sustains us. On the social issues and civic efforts that deserve to be seen and supported. We shed light on what’s working, and also on what urgently needs to change. Because responsible journalism doesn’t mean silence — it means perspective.
As we’ve grown, we’ve also listened. We’ve seen how easily criticism can swing in both directions. When we highlight something beautiful about Tulum, we’re told we ignore its problems. When we report on difficulties, we’re told we tarnish its image. This paradox, though at times disheartening, has strengthened our resolve. We’ve come to understand that serving a community means standing in nuance, not in extremes.
And in all this, we’ve remained deeply human. In recent months, some have speculated that our content is produced by artificial intelligence. We take no offense — the lines between technology and creativity are evolving fast. But let us be clear: The Tulum Times is made by people. Every sentence is reviewed, crafted, and published by editors and communicators who care deeply about what we share. We are not algorithms. We are voices.
Why We Write in English — and What It Means
From the outset, we recognized that language would shape the essence of this project. Our team, comprising passionate professionals from Mexico, the United States, Canada, and other countries, shares a deep love for Tulum and a unified commitment to sharing its stories with the world. Choosing English as our primary publishing language was never about erasing culture — it was about expanding connection.
English is, globally, the most widely understood and accessible language. By writing in English, we are not limiting our reach — we are extending it. We want people in New York, Berlin, Mexico City, Toronto, and beyond to understand what’s happening in Tulum. To care. To engage. To see this place not just as a destination, but as a living, breathing community with its rhythms, challenges, and spirit.
At the same time, we understand and honor the beauty of the Spanish language. That’s why all of our content is also automatically available in Spanish, ensuring that those who speak this beautiful language, whether in Tulum or elsewhere, can connect with our stories just as profoundly. Because language is not a barrier, it’s a bridge. And we are here to build them.
Our New Real Estate Platform
Our evolution continues. One of our newest ventures — a dedicated real estate platform — was born from the same spirit of service. Designed for individuals, agents, and agencies alike, it provides tools to showcase properties professionally and reach a wider audience with clarity and transparency. Still young, the platform is growing steadily and will soon become a trusted space for real estate visibility across the Riviera Maya.
But what we value most isn’t the platform — it’s the people. You.
We want to hear from you
That’s why we open this space even more. We want to hear from you, not just as readers, but also as participants. What should we cover more often? What deserves attention? What are you working on that could benefit the wider community?
If you’re leading an environmental cause, organizing a cultural initiative, developing a social project, or have an idea worth sharing, write to us. Our editorial team is here not just to report, but to amplify what matters. Our mission is not only to inform — it’s to serve as a platform for those working for a better Tulum.
This is our invitation: let’s build together. Let’s shape the next chapter of The Tulum Times as a shared space — a space for collaboration, for visibility, for impact.
We are not just a news outlet.
We are a bridge between voices. A mirror to our reality. A tool for transformation.
So today, we celebrate 20,000 — not as a finish line, but as a reminder. That even in the digital world, trust is earned, not given. That growth with meaning is possible. And that journalism rooted in humanity will always have a place.
Thank you for walking this path with us. For reading, for sharing, for believing.
We’re just getting started.
Let’s continue — together.
