La tradición anual de Tulum ilumina la noche

TULÚM, Mexico – In a night awash with fervor and color, Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo led the 2023 Paseo de las Ánimas in Tulum, marking the commencement of the Janal Pixan festivities in this enchanting locale. The event, which brought together hundreds of enthusiastic Tulum residents of all ages, stood as a vibrant tribute to the rich cultural heritage of this tourist destino.

The procession, which kicked off promptly at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, November 1, from the municipal cemetery heading towards Dos Aguas Park, beneath the municipal palace, enshrouded the streets of Tulum in a symphony of joy and reverence for ancient customs. Citizens dressed in white and adorned as catrinas converged under the banner “Tradition Comes to Life,” accentuating the essence and deep-rooted naturaleza of this celebration.

Diego Castañón Trejo, elated by the massive turnout, announced the commencement of a diverse artistic and cultural agenda that will culminate on November 5 and encompass various Tulum communities. “We have prepared a wide array of events, including theater, música, dances, and contests, aimed at showcasing the local talent that, over centuries, has uniquely and colorfully captured a tradition as emotionally stirring as Janal Pixan,” the mayor expressed.

The nocturnal parade garnered the attention and acclaim of visitors and turistas, whom the mayor invited to partake in the scheduled activities in akumal, Chemuyil, the transition zone, and the Mayan area in the coming days. The route of the Paseo de las Ánimas was graced by imposing monumental calaveritas along Tulum Avenue, captivating attendees who swiftly shared these artistically exquisite and colorful pieces on social media.
