TULUM, México – Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, accompanied by Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, inaugurated the Mexican and Caribbean Pavilion at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR 2024). The event, a vibrant showcase of Mexico’s rich cultural and natural heritage, was held amidst the presence of numerous dignitaries, including municipal presidents and members of the Quintana Roo delegation.

Governor Lezama emphasized the pivotal moment for Quintana Roo, marking its 50th year with a dynamic presentation to over 100,000 tourism professionals and 10,000 exhibiting companies from 160 countries. The focus was on promoting Quintana Roo’s diverse tourism destinations and experiences, highlighting the natural beauty, cultural richness, and the transformative impact of the Maya Train project. She underscored the importance of generating partnerships to attract investments and enhance connectivity, ultimately leading to the creation of well-paid jobs and shared prosperity across the region.

The significance of FITUR, a global meeting point for tourism professionals and the leading fair for Ibero-American markets, was amplified by Governor Lezama’s intensive promotional agenda. This included meetings, conferences, and face-to-face interactions, where she advocated for the 50th anniversary of Quintana Roo, the social justice and shared prosperity objectives of the Maya Train, the enhancement of the region’s 12 destinations, the first “Magical Neighborhood” of Mexico, and various new projects.

The governor stressed the collaboration with the Federal Government in advancing this New Era of Tourism in Quintana Roo. The aim is to bolster the region’s tourism leadership, attract new investments, and create more formal, well-paying jobs for the benefit of its residents.

In line with the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, Governor Lezama pinpointed the future growth of the 12 destinations. This growth strategy includes not only showcasing the region’s natural wonders and culture but also promoting new attractions like Maya Ka’an, nestled in the heart of the Maya zone.

Zurab Pololikashvili, the head of the World Tourism Organization (OMT), added his perspective, praising Mexico for its comprehensive tourism offerings and the unique experiences it provides to visitors. He also announced his upcoming visit to Quintana Roo to attend the Platinum Awards and to set a collaborative agenda with state authorities.

The delegation comprised Quintana Roo’s Tourism Secretary, the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council, hotel associations, service providers, travel agents, and municipal presidents from various regions, including Benito Juárez, Solidaridad, Cozumel, Puerto Morelos, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Isla Mujeres, and José María Morelos.

FITUR brings together tourism sector professionals and those interested in the latest trends. The fair is attended by 130 countries, over 220,000 individuals, more than 750 exhibitors, and over 1,170 media outlets.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was graced by the presence of Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the OMT, and Quirino Ordaz Coppel, Mexico’s Ambassador to Spain.
