Envisioning a Prosperous Future for Tulum

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa called upon all the residents of Tulum to work together in unity for the construction of the future Tulum, laying the foundations for a prosperous and thriving municipality for the next 50 years. The development has already begun with the construction of the Tren Maya and the Felipe Carrillo Puerto Airport. During the solemn session of the City Council commemorating the 15th anniversary of the municipality, Lezama made it clear that Tulum has become a focal point of the federal government’s flagship project: the Tren Maya and the influence zone of the “Felipe Carrillo Puerto” international airport. These initiatives will bring about a new leap in growth and development speed. The official expressed that this growth and development in the region will bring both good news and challenges that need to be addressed with responsibility and future vision.

She added that urban order will be a priority because shared prosperity is the central objective of her humanistic and progressive government. In her speech, the head of the executive branch committed to restoring the role of the state as a guide for growth, defining the path to be followed with absolute respect for the competencies of each level of government. She emphasized that in decision-making, as outlined in the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, people will always be at the center, giving special importance to the indigenous Mayan communities. “There cannot be a prosperous Tulum that does not include the prosperity of its Mayan people, that does not include them within the framework of respect for their traditions and customs, as part of this development process,” she said. “The best way to pay tribute to that tradition is to say: Never again will the Mayan people be forgotten and marginalized from the economic and social development of the state,” she affirmed.

Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo, highlighted the impetus that President López Obrador and Governor Mara Lezama provide to Tulum, which undoubtedly propels it into the future with development. However, he also acknowledged that it will bring challenges that need to be faced with social justice and in alignment with the New Agreement for Well-being and Development. The official speaker, Silvia Dzul Sánchez, a member of one of the founding families of the town, recalled that since the birth of Tulum, they have witnessed its sustained growth that keeps its roots and diversity alive. In this solemn session, attended by representatives of the three branches of government, eight recognitions were awarded to distinguished women and men, residents of Tulum who have made significant contributions in various fields.
