The governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama Espinosa, was successful in materializing the project of the first Artisanal Corridor in Tulum during the initial months of her term. The corridor provides spaces for artisans to promote, produce, and sell their products, which recognizes and encourages the work of the indigenous Mayan peoples.
The Secretary of Economic Development (SEDE), Karla Almanza López, explained that the first Artisanal Corridor project in Tulum will have an investment of 400,000 pesos, benefitting 24 artisanal individuals, and was achieved through an agreement with the National Fund for the Promotion of Handicrafts (FONART).
The comprehensive intervention project includes training, production, and service actions, as well as the creation of exhibition and sales spaces for artisanal works, workshop signage, and promotional materials necessary for their insertion in the market for tourist promotion.
As part of the New Agreement for the Wellbeing and Development of Quintana Roo, promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, they are working on positioning artisanal works so that they can be showcased globally.
The corridor will comprise the construction of four workshops in the communities of Manuel Antonio Ay, Francisco Uh May, and Macario Gómez, Tulum. One of the requirements is that groups must be located in tourist destinations, magical towns, or federative entities with high artisanal density, conducive to offering artisanal works to national and international tourists.
With this resource, they will also carry out the promotion of tourist attractions, sensitivity and socialization workshops, diagnostic assessments of investment needs in infrastructure, equipment, and training, as well as partnerships with associations for tourist strengthening.
Through this project, Tulum's artisans will have an adequate space for promoting and selling their products, enabling them to achieve better incomes and greater wellbeing.
