TULUM, Mexico – In the vibrant setting of the 2023 Magical Towns Fair, Quintana Roo emerges as an undeniable protagonist, showcasing three of its tourist gems: Cozumel, Bacalar, and Tulum. These destinations, renowned for their natural beauty and cultural richness, stand as a testament to Governor Mara Lezama’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable, diverse tourism.
Bernardo Cueto Riestra, the Secretary of Tourism, highlighted the significant presence of the Quintana Roo delegation, comprising Cozumel’s Mayor, Juanita Alonso Marrufo; Bacalar’s Mayor, José Contreras Méndez; and Tulum’s Director of Promotion and Gender Perspective Transversalization, Maribel Cruz Rodríguez. Cueto Riestra emphasized that the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, championed by the Governor, facilitates the promotion of the state’s 12 destinations and 11 municipalities, including the three Magical Towns that safeguard cultural and natural heritage.
“In participating in the Magical Towns Fair, we seize the opportunity to showcase Quintana Roo’s wealth and diversity to the world, aligning with our vision of tourism that benefits all citizens,” stated the Secretary of Tourism.
He underscored the significance of events like the Magical Towns Fair for the state’s tourism development. “The presence of Cozumel, Bacalar, and Tulum in this event is not just a showcase for these destinations; it’s also an affirmation of our commitment to responsible and quality tourism. These towns are not just destinations; they are also guardians of our identity and culture.”
Notably, from January to September 2023, Cozumel welcomed over 780,000 tourists and more than 3.18 million cruise passengers, underscoring its popularity in cruise tourism. Bacalar, with its breathtaking Seven Colors Lagoon, attracted over 188,000 visitors, while Tulum, renowned for its majestic Mayan ruins and pristine beaches, hosted more than 1.29 million tourists. The average occupancy in these three Magical Towns hovered around 72% during this period, demonstrating their consistent appeal.
The Magical Towns Fair serves as a crucial platform for the exchange of ideas, strategies, and alliances that promote sustainable and responsible tourism. With Quintana Roo’s participation, the aim is not only to increase the visibility of its Magical Towns but also to foster cultural and economic exchange with other states and regions.
