Cocaine packages found hidden among the sargassum in Tulum

Sargassum continues to be a problem they are fighting on the beaches of Quintana Roo, but now, it has been used as a new way to hide drugs.

In Tulum, elements of the National Guard seized packages of cocaine hidden among the sargassum on the beach.

“The discovery was recorded when national guardsmen were carrying out security and crime prevention patrols, in the beach area of the tourist zone, at kilometer 11.5, in the municipality of Tulum,” the agency said in a statement.

The elements of the National Guard were patrolling when they detected five black rectangular packages, covered with transparent tape, approximately 15 centimeters wide by 20 centimeters long, on the shore of the beach, among the sargassum.

“Together with elements of the Army and the municipal police, they examined the packages and found that they contained white powder with characteristics of the narcotic known as cocaine,” added the National Guard.

The packages were secured and placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office in the municipality of Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo.
