TULUM, Mexico – The upcoming inauguration of the Tulum International Airport in Quintana Roo, set for December 2023, stands as one of the region’s most significant infrastructure projects. This new development is a vital component of the broader infrastructure plan initiated by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s government in Southeast Mexico, with an investment exceeding 16 billion pesos, as reported in the 2023 Federal Expenditure Project.

The success of this endeavor hinges on a critical factor: the availability of a diverse range of flight routes. As the opening date approaches, a wide variety of routes are anticipated, cementing the airport’s significance in the region.

As several airlines operating within Mexico have disclosed, numerous routes are slated to connect to the new Quintana Roo airport. These routes will primarily be serviced by VivaAerobus and Aeroméxico, comprising a diverse array of destinations:

  4. Toronto
  5. San Francisco
  6. Chicago
  7. Mexico City
  8. State of Mexico (AIFA)
  9. Guadalajara

With the establishment of this new terminal, the primary aim is to alleviate the air traffic congestion experienced at the Cancún airport. This initiative offers travelers a fresh alternative for reaching the Mexican Caribbean.

The airport will officially bear the name “Aeropuerto Internacional Felipe Carrillo Puerto” and will be situated in close proximity to Tulum, Quintana Roo. Operations are slated to commence on December 1, 2023, marking a significant milestone in the region’s aviation landscape.
