This new development is a vital component of the broader infrastructure plan initiated by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s government in Southeast Mexico, with an investment exceeding 16 billion pesos, as reported in the 2023 Federal Expenditure Project.

As several airlines operating within Mexico have disclosed, numerous routes are slated to connect to the new Quintana Roo airport. These routes will primarily be serviced by VivaAerobus and Aeroméxico, comprising a diverse array of destinations:

The airport will officially bear the name “Aeropuerto Internacional Felipe Carrillo Puerto” and will be situated in close proximity to Tulum, Quintana Roo. Operations are slated to commence on December 1, 2023, marking a significant milestone in the region’s aviation landscape.
