TULUM, México —In a landmark move poised to reshape the travel landscape of the Riviera Maya, Avianca Airlines has unveiled plans to inaugurate direct flights to Tulum, Mexico. This will mark the first time the vibrant destination will be served by the Colombian carrier. Announced on September 25, 2024, Avianca’s new route promises to connect Tulum with over 75 destinations across the Americas and Europe through a strategic hub in Bogotá.
Commencing on December 10, Avianca will operate three flights weekly between Bogotá and Tulum, utilizing its modern Airbus A320 fleet. Each aircraft, with a seating capacity of 180 passengers, will facilitate over 1,000 seats available weekly between these two pivotal destinations. This expansion underscores Avianca’s commitment to enhancing connectivity within Latin America and highlights Tulum’s rising prominence as a must-visit locale for global travelers.
David Alemán, Avianca’s Director of Sales for Colombia and South America, emphasized the significance of this development: “The year 2024 has been historic for our route network in Bogotá, with the resurgence of iconic destinations such as Caracas, Paris, Montreal, Chicago, and Aeroparque in Buenos Aires, and now, Tulum. Through our robust Latin American network, with Bogotá as the regional hub, we can connect millions of travelers from over 25 countries directly to the paradise of the Riviera Maya, offering new connectivity options and enhanced access to emerging destinations.”
The new Bogotá-Tulum itinerary is meticulously scheduled to accommodate travelers’ diverse needs. Flight AV94 will depart Bogotá at 12:30 PM and arrive in Tulum at 4:00 PM, while the return flight AV95 will leave Tulum at 5:05 PM and reach Bogotá by 8:25 PM. Subject to governmental approvals, these flights will operate every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, providing a reliable and convenient travel option for leisure and business passengers.
This strategic expansion aligns with Avianca’s broader vision of strengthening its presence in Mexico, which operates eight routes with 84 weekly flights. With the addition of Tulum, Avianca’s Mexican operations will expand to nine routes and 87 weekly frequencies, connecting key cities such as Ciudad de México, Cancún, Medellín, and several Central American hubs. This growth not only enhances Avianca’s network but also reinforces Mexico’s status as a pivotal destination in Avianca’s international strategy.
