TULUM, Mexico – The Tulum Times brings you the latest update on the hotel occupancy rates for August, as reported by the Tulum Hotel Association (AHT). August saw a slight increase compared to July, with an overall average occupancy rate of 76.59 percent, whereas July recorded an average of 75.17 percent.

However, what stands out is the rise in occupancy rates in the central area, reaching 62.36 percent. The All-Inclusive resorts and Akumal boasted an impressive 83.84 percent occupancy rate, while the National Park achieved 62.52 percent. The Boca Paila-Sian Ka’an zone reported 44.66 percent, and Akumal-Chemuyil-Tankah had 35.80 percent occupancy.

It’s important to note that the summer vacation period began in the second week of July and concluded on August 25th. According to the State Tourism Secretariat (Sedetur), during this period, a total of 1,877,546 tourists visited various destinations in Quintana Roo, marking a 3.9 percent increase compared to 2022.

Breaking it down by destination, Chetumal experienced a significant upswing with 101,236 tourists, reflecting a 9.7 percent increase from the previous year. Bacalar welcomed 22,899 tourists, a 7.7 percent increase. Cancún, a perennial favorite, attracted 613,193 tourists, a 6.1 percent rise, while Costa Mujeres saw 102,997 visitors, also with a 6.1 percent increase. Isla Mujeres recorded 27,085 visitors, marking a 4.9 percent growth.

Puerto Morelos reported 92,611 travelers, showing a 5.6 percent increase, and Holbox welcomed 49,832 visitors, indicating a 5.3 percent rise. Playa del Carmen witnessed an increase in tourists, with 172,259 visitors, translating to a 3.4 percent growth. Tulum, a gem on the Riviera Maya, attracted 167,055 tourists, with a modest 0.8 percent increase, while the Riviera Maya corridor welcomed 397,384 tourists, marking a 0.3 percent growth.
